Overstock.com Puts Name on Oakland Stadium

The stadium that the Oakland Athletics and Oakland Raiders call home has been renamed after online retailer Overstock.com.

The company said on Wednesday that it had acquired the naming rights to the stadium — currently called the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum — for six years at about $1.2 million a year. The new Overstock.com Coliseum will host its first game on Friday.

The authority that runs the stadium had been looking for a new corporate sponsor since software manufacturer McAfee Inc. decided not to extend its naming rights deal in 2008. The Oakland Tribune reports that that deal was worth $1.3 million a year.

Ignacio De La Fuente, chairman of the coliseum authority, said the deal with Overstock.com would bring additional revenue to Oakland and Alameda County, which sit on the authority's board and have subsidized the stadium.
